Four decades of music, unforgettable dancefloors and a lifelong passion for soul.

For Pete James, music has never been just something to listen to. It's about memories, emotions, friendships and those unforgettable moments when the right song brings everyone together. With around 40 years of experience behind the decks, Pete's musical journey began in the days of mobile discos before taking him into pubs, hotels, nightclubs and venues both in the UK and overseas. In 1984, Pete took on the management of a nightclub where he was already DJing. Over the following six years, he helped create memorable nights featuring live bands, established DJs and packed dancefloors.

At the heart of Pete's musical journey has always been a deep appreciation for soul, R&B, disco and dance music. Influenced by artists including Stevie Wonder, Luther Vandross, Marvin Gaye, The Isley Brothers, The Temptations and Earth, Wind & Fire, Pete developed a passion for music with feeling, rhythm and unmistakable groove. That passion eventually took him to the Mediterranean. Between 2012 and 2018, Pete helped organise the Summer Breeze soul festival in Corfu, Greece — a week-long celebration bringing together soul music lovers, DJs and live performers for days and nights filled with music.

Radio presenting was another ambition Pete was determined to fulfil. Joining Black Cat Radio in St Neots, he brought his extensive musical knowledge and natural enthusiasm to the airwaves. His presenting work has included daytime shows and Ten2Midnight, sharing music from the 1960s through to contemporary releases while championing live entertainment and local music. Whether behind a microphone or behind the decks, Pete's philosophy remains the same: great music deserves to be heard.

After decades of playing and sharing other artists' music, Pete began exploring another side of his creativity — writing and producing music of his own. 59BEATZ MUSIC brings together the styles that have shaped his life: classic soul, jazz-funk, disco, soulful house and contemporary dance. His catalogue includes releases such as Soulful Groove (The DJs Journey), Where the Soul Lives and Soul in the Sun. Each release reflects a musical journey built on experience, inspiration and a genuine love of a great groove.

Today, Pete continues to develop 59BEATZ MUSIC as a home for his original recordings, new releases and musical projects. It's a celebration of the music he grew up with, the dancefloors he's entertained and the sounds that continue to inspire him. 59BEATZ MUSIC — REAL MUSIC. REAL VIBES. REAL SOUL.
